Administering Blackboard
From Fall 2006 to Fall 2007 I worked in Teaching Learning Center where I helped to administer Blackboard. This task required that the other student aides and I:
- Create and keep track of actively used courses
- Train and troubleshoot for Faculty and Students
- Backup Course materials and roll over requested courses from semester to semester
As programmers, Tom Bouton and I automated as much of this as we could by creating request forms and an application to automatically archive, export and download course materials.
Blackboard is being phased out at Dutchess in favor of a new LMS called Angel that the TLC now supports. I no longer work in the TLC but Tom continues to write stop-gap application to interface between our campus student records and Angel until the college finishes implementing Banner. I continue to contribute slightly by authoring a training scheduling web application that allows faculty to sign up for TLC traingings.
The TLC has also phased out most student support and that has been deligated to a new Student Help Desk where mostly former TLC student aides work.
