Subject: Overview
Welcome to the course! In this three credit course, you will identify and explore current health issues that are of special interest or are unique to women. Topics will include emotional well-being, stress management, health problems related to female anatomy and physiology, violence against women and issues of reproduction and childbearing.

These issues touch all of our lives in some way and it is critical that we empower ourselves with knowledge so that we can be aware of such things as disease symptoms, our changing emotional health, threats to our livelihoods, and ways to promote continual wellness.

Subject: Course Objectives
The objectives of the course are as follows:

To identify health related issues of special interest to women.
To study health problems related to the anatomy and physiology of women.
To develop an understanding of complications related to sexually transmitted infections.
To analyze chronic degenerative diseases unique to women in their etiology or prognosis.
To assess emotional health states and how they are affected by social, cultural, genetic, and role-related demands in women.
To understand violence against women, its impact, and coping resources and skills.
To understand the choices available in female contraception and childbirth planning.
To evaluate the impact of wellness behaviors in women, such as fitness and nutrition.
To assess the role of the media in female body image issues and its relationship to eating disorders.
To build an awareness of the potential outcomes of health-harmful behaviors.
