Requirements
& Notes for ALL Graded Material/ Halsey
·
All graded
material is expected to show clear evidence of being college level work. Materials you submit for a grade must be of
high academic quality, and must be professionally presented.
·
Think of the work
you do in college as good practice for how you would work in a professional
setting. If you were doing a report for your boss, you would make sure it
was attractively laid out, had no spelling or grammatical mistakes, addressed
the particular tasks clearly and completely, and gave a very clear indication
that you took pride in your work. Follow these same concepts for any work
you turn in for each of your courses. Keep in mind that the more you
practice the way you want to present yourself in important situations, the
more you will ensure that those habits come naturally to you when you need
them.
·
While I give you
enormous latitude in how you present your work, I do have some specific
requirements as listed below. Please make sure that you carefully
read and adhere to the requirements below. I do NOT make exceptions to
them.
I do not make
exceptions to the requirements listed below.
·
Turn In work must be submitted on time:
o Work is due at the beginning
of the class on the indicated due date. If you have a legitimate
reason for coming into class late on the day an assignment is due, have your
assignment ready as you enter the classroom, and put it on the front desk
before you sit down.
o Stop at the end of class to explain the situation that
led you to being late to class.
o Have your
papers completely ready to hand in before the class
begins. DO NOT take class time looking for a stapler, or running
down the hall trying to find one. (I suggest you invest in a pocket
stapler that you keep in your book bag!)
·
No late papers will be graded unless you have made
previous arrangements with me.
o If you are
going to be absent because of a field trip for another class, you must let me know before the due date so that we
can make arrangements as to when you will be submitting your work. Do NOT expect me to take your work after the
due date unless you have let me know in advance of the due date.
o If something
unexpected happens, call or e-mail me at some point on the due date and let me
know what your situation is. (Think of your turn-ins as part
of your "job requirements". If you were going to miss work, or
be late, you would notify your boss – or you would not be surprised if you were
fired.) While I do not generally grant individual extensions on
assignments unless there are valid reasons, I do realize that life happens, and
can throw us curveballs and surprises. I am happy to discuss any situation with
you as long as I at the very least receive a message from you on the due date.
·
Each of the
following criteria must be met. Points will be deducted as indicated for failure to
satisfy these requirements even if all your answers are correct:
o Regular Size Paper - No Ragged Edges: Work must be done on regular size paper with no ragged
edges. (1 point reduction)
o Staple Multiple Pages: Multiple papers must be stapled before you come to
class! Don’t throw away points.
Staple your paper before class. And no, a paper clip or other
holding device doesn’t count! (1 point reduction)
o No Cross Outs/ Disorganized Work: Please make sure you leave sufficient room on your paper
for comments and/or corrections. Do not cram work into a very small
space! Work should not contain cross outs, or be messy and
disorganized. This probably means that you should rewrite your work in
final form after you have mapped out your work on scratch paper, rather than
thinking that your first work will be what you hand in. (1 point reduction)
o Do Problems in Order: Problems must be presented in numerical order. (1
point reduction)
o All aspects of the problem solving process must be
addressed. I will give you more specific information on
this when I pass out your first graded work that involves mathematical
concepts.
